Hi,
   This is a suggestion for improvement rather than a request for help; I have
been using the ESAS background software and noticed that the mos-spectra script
fails if used on a large radius annulus (11-14' in my case). The reason for
failure appears to be that rmfgen is run with the standard settings, including
detmaptype=psf, which causes it to fail for a very extended off-axis region. The
script is easily fixed to use detmaptype=flat, but I imagine the best solution
would be to generate a proper detector map image and use that. I thought I'd
pass along the suggestion in case anyone else using the software ran into the
same problem.

Thank you for your comments on our ESAS software package - 

Having discussed your message with the developper, the answer is that 
the changes you propose have already been made in the new version that
is currently under testing. The new code does create a detector
map for use in arfgen.  

The next release of this new version of ESAS is planned to be made within
the next couple of weeks, again via our EPIC background web pages. Please
stay tuned.
