Subject: Grppha/Rgscombine Error
Full_Name: Sam Cabot
Submission from: (NULL) (71.235.157.203)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am analyzing spectra from Cygnus X-2 and was hoping you could help me with an
error I am running into. The Obsids I am using are 0111360101, 0303280101,
0602310101, 0561180201, and 0561180501. There are noisy channels around some
absorption lines of interest in the combined spectrum so I used grppha to flag
the channels in individual spectral files as bad before running rgscombine.
However, I receive the error:

(accessingAsWrongDataType), Accessing data SPECTRUM.CHANNEL of type Int32 as
int16 is not supported

Is there a way to get rgscombine to read the long integer data? If not, how can
I convert it to short while keeping the channels flagged?

I am using SAS version 10.0.0
Thank you very much,
-Sam.

Dear Sam,

Unfortunately, grppha changes the type of column CHANNEL from Int16 in its input
file (valid for rgscombine) to Int32 in the output file and this is causing
rgscombine to issue an error.

Until a proper solution is found, I would suggest as a workaround to "manually"
edit the files with fv to set the value of the column QUALITY to 5 (channel set
to bad by user) for those pixels you want to flag as "bad"

Sincerely,

Pedro
