The slew datasets (SDFs) produced by XMM are essentially identical to the normal pointed-mode datasets (ODFs). The principle difference being that they are taken from a large region of the celestial sphere and so recasting them onto traditional sky coordinates is not straightforward.
To allow the general user to process these data, the set of scripts used to produce the first XMM slew catalogue (XMMSL1) are available. These procedures use a very specific way of processing the data, by dividing the slew up into roughly 1 degree long images and producing event files and images (in various energy bands) which are fully attitude-corrected. Other forms of processing these datasets are of course possible and the scripts may be tailored by the user as desired. The software is written as shell and perl scripts.
Currently the scripts only run correctly under Linux. It is planned to make a release compatible with the Mac and Solaris operating systems soon.
The software should be downloaded from here and untarred into a directory.
Simple installation instructions are given in the file InstallationGuide.txt and user instructions are given in UserGuide.txt. or UserGuide.ps.gz.
For a more complete guide to the output of this procedure and the contents of the slew data please see here.
