2007 Science Workshop - Paper Upload
Submission deadline: 3rd September 2007

Instructions for Authors

Proceedings of the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre Workshop "XMM-Newton: The Next Decade" will be published as a regular issue of the Astronomische Nachrichten / Astronomical Notes (AN). AN is the oldest astronomical journal of the world that is still being published. In its renewed appearance it is intended to serve as a supplement in all fields of astrophysical research and is also used for refereed workshop proceedings.

The workshop organizers are very much looking forward to receive your articles which will result in a timely publication of the workshop proceedings. We are sure that this publication will present a summary of future scientific prospects and as such will support the scientific case for future XMM-Newton extensions.

Please note the limit for submissions is 4 PAGES.

The strict deadline for submission is 3 September 2007.

The papers shall either be of review type or present the results of original research not previously published. It is very important that all papers outline their science prospects with respect to XMM-Newtons' future. Articles submitted should meet these criteria and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. All papers are sent to referees. There are no page charges. Authors should be aware about the final Transfer of Copyright to AN of all published papers and the possibility of ordering additional reprints/pdfs from AN.

Papers must be written in English. While a polished literary style is not demanded of scientific papers, they should conform to the elementary rules of grammar, syntax, and punctuation.

Preparation of Manuscripts

Only manuscripts written with the most recent version of the LaTeX2e style file can be accepted. This style file can be obtained by retrieving one of the following packages:
AN-macro.tar.gz (441k) - Includes instructions, the AN-LaTeX2e macro, a template file for your paper, and other files you may need (as described in the accompaning read.me-file).
an.cls (51k) - Only the AN-LaTeX2e macro (unzipped, uncompressed).
guide.tex (19k) - Only the template LaTeX2e-file (unzipped, uncompressed).
guide.ps.gz (215k) - The guide in gzipped postscript format.
Authors are also encouraged to submit Encapsulated PostScript (".eps") files for figures, especially for grey scales. Each EPS file should be one page only (multipage files are unacceptable). Authors should check that laser-printed originals of these figures are acceptable.

Papers have to be accompanied by key words. These are published together with the paper and must be chosen from the current list of key words (up to five items).

Refereeing of Proceedings

The XMM-Newton SOC is looking for referees to assist with these proceedings, and we would hope that all submissions are accompanied with an offer of assistance. It is expected that the workload will be minimal, due to a large number of volunteers.

Please use the tick-box in the submission form below to indicate your availability.

Contact

If you have questions concerning the proceedings, feel free to contact the workshop organizers by e-mail to ws2007@sciops.esa.int

Upload Facility

You are welcome to submit your manuscript electronically below.

Depending on the size of the file uploaded, and the speed of your connection to the internet, the upload may take a minute or two. For example a 5Mb file could take up to 3 minutes, even across a broadband connection.

Please ensure the email address you give is correct as it may be necessary to contact you if there is a problem with the uploaded file.

Please also ensure you enter your postal address as this information will be used to deliver your printed copy of the proceedings.

Please Note
