About this Image

False X-ray color image of the XMM-COSMOS field. Images were accumulated in three different energy bands 0.5-2 keV (red), 2-4.5 keV (green), 4.5-10 keV (blue). The image is a mosaic of 55 individual XMM-Newton EPIC pointings. The XMM-COSMOS survey is the deepest wide (>1 deg^2) field X-ray survey ever performed. The image contains about 2000 point-like sources, mainly AGN, and more than 100 galaxy clusters which appear as extended sources.
