About this Image

This combined XMM-Newton observation of the core of the very massive cluster Cyg OB2 reveals strong X-ray emission from the massive O-type stars of this cluster as well as weaker emission from hundreds of lower mass stars that were recently born in the association. The blue, green and red colours correspond to photon energies of 0.5 - 1.0, 1.0 - 2.0 and 2.0 - 8.0 keV, respectively.
