About this Image
Three colour X-ray image of the starburst galaxy NGC 253. The image has been produced from the EPIC-pn data. The colours correspond to the energy bands (0.2-0.5 keV, red), (0.5-1.0 keV, green), and (1.0-2.0 keV, blue). Overplotted in white is the optical extent of NGC 253. The galaxy shows prominent large-scale X-ray emission in the halo Northwest and South East of the almost edge-on seen disc of the galaxy.
