The distribution of the simulator SciSim has been discontinued

As of July 19, 2010, the public distribution of SciSim has been stopped.

The last version of SciSim (V4.0) was released in Jan 2005 with the aim to make it more accessible than previous versions and to allow an assessment of the calibration reliability of simulations. Although no functional problems were identified, limitations were appreciated with regard to its capabilities to produce realistic representations of XMM-Newton science data.

The evolution of the system characteristics and calibration through the more than one decade of mission and their expected projections into the mission future makes the SciSim upgrade and maintenance a more and more complex task. This has forced a decision to stop further efforts being invested in the simulator.
